Ego State Therapy

Ego State Therapy is a process of assisting us understand the internal states we experience and how they communicate with each other. When we get stuck in one state such as depression, this state monopolises our system of inner communication and we may then become unaware of other states such as joy, peace etc..

Ego State Therapy maps and names the roles and communication lives then, of these ego states in order to allow the flow of communication to expand and enhance our well being, rather than increasing states of anxiety or depression.

Using Ego State Therapy you expand your personal and relationship skills by increasing awareness and communication between our internal ego states. When we can better understand how one or other of these states may be consuming our energy at the expense of a more positive state, we can redirect the energy to gain more balance in our interactions in life. Just as electricity moves along a line to reach it’s destination, so to do our inner states move to achieve certain outcomes in our life.

States such as depression, anxiety, anger, love, joy are just a few that we have created to cope with our life. Ego state therapy is very effective in couple counselling. By understanding the states we use to communicate to others and developing an awareness of their relationship to other states, as well as the positive and negative effects on our relationships, we are given the ability to enhance our relationship skills in all areas of our life.
